Yes, I’m about to rant. I was scheduled for major surgery on today and was called on Friday afternoon to say my surgery was postponed because my doctor had a personal health emergency.
That’s understandable. But here’s what pissed me off. She has no backup. The office will call me in 2 weeks (maybe, they aren’t sure) to reschedule (it took them a month to give me the first date). Oh, the hospital cashed my copayment on Friday too, after I completed pre-op.
My mom had already taken off from work. I had already taken off from work. Most importantly, I was physically and emotionally prepared for this surgery.
I’m pissed that the health system takes us for granted. I have lost all confidence in this doctor and the hospital, so there’s no way in hell I’m going back. At times it seemed like she was getting me confused with other patients. I’m in pain constantly. I was wondering about the women scheduled for cesarean births… do they have to wait 2 weeks to have the baby? I think not.
But now, I must find a new doctor. Finding a doctor is hard. It involves research about the doc, making sure your insurance is accepted by the doc, talking to others for recommendations. It’s almost like finding a job.
So, what do you look for in a doctor? What questions should I ask (I know one of my first will be do you have a backup)?
Well, gotta go. Gotta contact the hospital to demand my copayment back.
Hey, girl! I hope everything’s going well following the surgery. I tried returning your call a couple of times, but just got your voicemail saying you were on extended leave. Hit a sistah up: juswritin@sbcglobal.net.
